Going to the edges of the cathedral (either side) and getting your torchlight and/or magical light as far as you can manage it, you don't see anything lurking in the chasm, but it does seem to be a long rift, however there's no evidence that other man-made chambers are down there that way. That you can see, anyway.
Since I've got the light going, I'd run it down the corridor too, at least to the first bend, to see what we can see.
It reaches a T intersection, which you'd have to go down to explore further.
