[I am truly sorry for the delay, my time management/ability to not distract myself is all over the place, probably with the lack of responsibilities as I'm home alone for a couple weeks, lol] On 2025-12-25 at 20:37:00 CST, Mike Bloy via Emerald Flame (emerald-flame@lists.incorporeal.org) wrote:

She will do her best to conceal the grapnel and tie a loop in the rope about 20 feet down.
Her plan is to descend into the dark of the chasm and lurk there while the interlopers make their way across.
"If this is to work as intended, we will need someone - who can use Far Step - to attract their attention and lure them across the chasm. Once they are well across, those luring House Magissa can use Far Step to bypass them, get across the chasm."
Gegren quickly bundles up the shutdown automaton and gives it to Nia. If needed, he'll help figure a way to strap it to her back. "I'll be the bait, and I'll try to lure them into the library and remain out of sight enough to be able to Far Step back, but that's not teleportation, they'll see me if I do it wrong."
[bss: the plan here is to try to lure them towards the library, and then a combination of Hedge Magic (to move a torch as if I'm continuing down the hall) and Far Step (to try to use the sudden darkness to conceal a Far Step down into the pit to where Nia is hiding.). LMK what rolls you want for that and how many actions you judge it to be.]
This plan sounds great, and just to state my understanding in case I'm wrong, the Nia and Dax are in the chasm, waiting for either the hurried but quiet all clear, or some larger commotion coming or going relative to the chasm, to let them know that it's time to move? All sounds good to me. The action here indeed seems to be on the success of the lure gambit. Not long after you prepare, the five people from the Company enter the chamber again, and make no notice of the grapnel. AT this point Gegren begins his gambit, making a convincing impression that he is surprised, and retreats to the library area, and the Company gives chase. Gegren enters the library again, still as you left it from the last couple times passing through it hastily, the books still present and slightly scattered from when your last attempts to read them was interrupted. It is here that I assume Gegren attempts to hide in the shadows of the room, and make a convincing impression that his /hedge magic/-torchlight is still going further down the hall, deeper into the chambers. [For the hiding I'll need a difficulty 3 Speed task, and the convincing magicing a difficulty 3 Intellect task. Feel free to use any relevant-sounding skills on this, as well. You can probably imagine which way the gig is up in the event you fail either.] -- bss (Brian S. Stephan) | https://bss.zone/ | GPG: 0x80895FCB
